How to Get Gorgeous Smoky Shimmer

Eyes

Before your foundation, make sure to apply some concealer wherever there are small spaces and shadows around your eyes. This will ensure you look sexy and smoldering, not tired, and it will make the eyes stand out more once they are done as it make your skin tone contrast with the eye makeup more. However, take care not to pile the concealer on and look like a racoon. You just want to make your eyes look a little brighter.

Step 2

Apply an eyeshadow base to your entire eyelid and blend it in thoroughly. Follow the directions for the base as you may need to let it set for a few minutes before applying shadow. Use one that is marketed as a base and possibly a highlighter. The lightest color in an eyeshadow set is not truly a base, and it will not contribute to the look we are going for. It should be similar to your skin color with a little irridescence or shimmer. It will serve to highlight under the brow bone, prevent creasing, and allow the shadow to go on more smoothly.

Step 3

Get out your medium/dark shimmery eyeshadow and a clean quality eyeshadow brush. Put the shadow on the brush in a 'swipe, swipe, tap' motion. This will make sure there is plenty of color on the brush but not so much that excess will land on your freshly made face.

Step 4

Lean your arm against something to keep it steady if need be and dot the eyeshadow brush along your eyelid closest to your lash line. When the color is covering that area, dot and brush in very small strokes the next level up on your eyelid until your eyelid is colored in from lashline to crease. You should be able to do this with loading the eyeshadow on the brush only one or two times.

Step 5

It may be a good idea to wipe off the brush at this point. Get a clean cloth and just move the brush back and forth over it to get any extra pigment out so you can have fresh color.

Step 6

Take up a very small bit of eyeshadow on the brush and blend up and out from the crease. Clean the brush again if needed and brush again to get rid of excess and avoid any harsh lines. The eyeshadow should blend seamlessly upward, getting progressively lighter as it goes up.

Step 7

Lean your arm against something to steady it and line your top eyelids with black eyeliner, going a little thicker as you go out towards the corner. Flick up the end of the line at the end for a cat eye effect. Get the line up against the lashes as closely as you can. It may help to get a straighter, closer line if you dot along your eyelashes first and then connect the dots in small strokes. If you are using black eyeshadow with an eyeliner brush, wet the brush and swipe it in the eyeshadow a few times. Repeat as necessary.

Step 8

Line the outer two thirds of your lower lids with the black eyeliner in a very fine subtle line. Be sure to connect the outer corners.

Step 9

Use a lighter shimmer eyeshadow in a coordinating shade or a lighter shimmer or metallic eyeliner to line the entire bottom eyelid, putting a little more at the inner corner. If you feel this has made the bottom eyelid too light, add a little more black eyeliner or your medium/dark shadow to get it to your liking.

Step 10

Clean up any smudges around the eyes with a finger or cotton swab and touch up your foundation or powder as needed. It is a good idea to go around the bottom and sides of your eyes anyway as there may be some flecks of eyeshadow that got away that may become noticeable later.

Step 11

If you prefer, curl your lashes and apply mascara. It may take some practice to avoid smudges getting onto your newly made up eyelids, but it is easier to apply the eyeshadow and liner if your eyelashes aren't in your way.

Step 12

Enjoy the compliments and longing looks!
